PerkinElmer Hosts the 2nd Annual Consortium at PITTCON 2009
Waltham, MA -On Monday, March 9, 2009, PerkinElmer, a global leader focused on human and environmental health, will host its 2nd Annual Global Issues Consortium at PITTCON 2009. The event will provide a forum to share ideas and issues critical to improving the health and well-being of people and the environment. The consortium, which is scheduled from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm CST at the Hyatt Regency, McCormick Place, Chicago, will feature Bill Bertera, executive director, Water Environment Federation, and Charles A. Samuels, LL.B., Mintz Levin, Consumer Product Safety Group. The consortium is part of EcoAnalytix™, PerkinElmer's revolutionary problem-solving initiative that addresses global imperatives of food and consumer product safety, the quality of the environment and renewable energy.

Emerging Contaminants, Climate Change and the Sustainability of the Water Supply
The Water Environment Federation (WEF) is a not-for-profit technical and educational organization with 35,000 individual members and 81 affiliated Member Associations representing an additional 50,000 water quality professionals throughout the world. As a key leader of WEF, Bertera is at the pulse of the water world. He will provide valuable insight on emerging contaminants and the impact of climate change on the sustainability of the global water supply.
Charles A. Samuels, LL.B., Mintz Levin, Consumer Product Safety Group
Samuels is a member practicing in the firm's Washington office and leads the Consumer Product Safety Group. He represents associations, companies, retailers and manufacturers before the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Congress on product safety matters. Samuels will provide an overview of the new federal product safety law (CPSIA) and the development of its implementation. The discussion will include certification, testing, laboratory, lead, and plastics issues. Reference also will be made to the recently introduced Canadian legislation, and U.S. Customs and state activity.
